Frequently Asked Questions

What type of quilting do you do?

I do edge-to-edge and light custom digital quilting. This means that I use a computerized system to guide my longarm quilting machine.

What is the cost of quilting?

Edge-to-edge quilting costs $0.03 per square inch. Total cost is calculated by the dimensions of your quilt.

For example:
Your quilt measures 60” x 80” = 4800 square inches
4800 x $0.03 = $144.00

Custom digital quilting starts at $0.04 per square inch.

Do you provide batting?

Yes, I can do that! Or you are welcome to supply your own high quality batting. Longarm quilting requires at least 3 inches of batting on each side of the quilt beyond the quilt top. If your quilt top measures 60” x 72”, I will need at least 64” x 76” of batting. That’s 64” linear inches.

I have Hobbs Heirloom 80/20 cotton/poly blend at $0.25 per linear inch.

Warm & White 100% cotton at $0.30 per linear inch.

Quilters Dream 100% cotton at $0.35 per linear inch.

Do you charge for thread, bobbins or needles?

No! Those are covered in the long arm cost.

What is the biggest size quilt your machine can handle?

108 inches wide.

What if my quilt top is uneven or needs repair?

I will do my best to make your quilt even and I will make repairs, if needed, at a cost of $25.00 per hour. Some fullness or puckers cannot always be quilted out. On occasion, a tuck may need to be taken in the case of an excessively wavy border. Quilting is an art and is not exact. Minor imperfections are normal.

What is Edge-to-Edge and Custom Digital Quilting?

Edge-to-Edge Quilting is a single design that covers the whole quilt top. Each row repeats the same design - from top to bottom, including borders.

Custom Digital Quilting includes multiple designs on one quilt. This could be as simple as one or two rows being different from the main design, or as complex as quilting each block or section with a different design. Quilting will be mostly digital, but may include free-motion quilting to connect sections of the quilt. This type of quilting really shows off the more individual pieces on the quilt top. It can have more technical designs than an edge-to-edge design.

How should I prepare my quilt?

Please place a safety pin in the top center of on your quilt top and backing, if applicable. Press quilt top and backing. (I will press if there is a large crease before attaching to the long arm).

Backing should be at least 4” bigger than your quilt top on all sides, or 8" total bigger than the top. Batting should be at least 2” bigger than your quilt top on all sides, or 4” total bigger than the top.

If there are multiple seams along the edge, I recommend sewing a 1/8” seam around the quilt top to prevent the seams from splitting. Please trim up the extra threads from the back of your quilt top.

Will you trim my quilt?

Yes! But only if you want me to! I will trim your quilt at no charge if that is selected on the Quilt Form. It will be trimmed on the edge of the fabric (unless otherwise requested in Notes).

Do you bind quilts?

Absolutely! All binding is attached first by machine and then either finished by machine on the front at $0.12 per linear inch, or hand sewn to the back at $0.20 per linear inch.

How does shipping work?

Once you fill out the Quilt Form on the Long Arm page, you will receive an email confirming that I received your order and I will give you my address for shipping purposes. From there you can use any service you would like to ship your beauty to me.
On the Quilt Form you will select how you would like your quilt returned to you. Shipping is a flat $20.00 and will be provided by USPS or UPS. If you would like additional insurance, please indicate this on the Quilt Form.
After quilting is done and invoice is paid, I will package your quilt up nicely in a waterproof bag (just in case) and send it on its way! Let me know if there is a change in how you would like it shipped back to you!

How long will it take to get my lovely back?

You will receive an email once I receive your quilt. It will take approximately 2-3 weeks to finish your quilt (unless otherwise requested). Please allow another week for shipping.

Turn around time can be rushed for an additional $30.00.

How do I pay for my quilt?

Once your quilt is completed, you will receive an invoice. It will need to be paid in full before your quilt is returned to you. Currently I am accepting Venmo and PayPal. I am able to accept a personal check with a 50% down-payment.
